Overview

We will select 75-100 men, ages 16 – 35 that are underemployed and/or unemployed. We anticipate serving more than 300 young males and men a year. Sessions will be taught in the career lab that houses computers, a smart board, training tables and other valuable resources at the Nia Center, located at 2900 West Broadway, Louisville, KY. 40211

SUMMARY AND DESCRIPTIONS OF PROGRAMS

Tailored and Tied to Succeed ™ will host and deliver six core components to address the needs of underemployed or unemployed young adult males and men as they transition back into society, move from poverty to self-sufficiency, and develop key pathways to a better future.

Our 6 components delivered to our clients include life skills training tailored to help men strengthen their daily spiritual, physical, intellectual, financial, family and social needs. The components focus on career development, career attire and job-readiness training directly tied to helping men enter the workforce; stay employed and become role models. Wrap around services will provide mentoring and other critical support services.

The major elements of the SPIFFS™ Workforce Development and Life Skills Curriculum are:

  • Life Skills and spiritual development which are integrated throughout all phases of the program
  • Engagement assistance through networking, volunteering and community involvement;
  • Advancement assistance through sustaining employment, mentoring and paying it forward; and
  • Preparation assistance through resume writing, mock interviewing, and soft skills training that includes such as integrity, teamwork, conflict resolution and critical thinking.

Each training component is designed to be timely, flexible and user friendly and most importantly, tailored to the specific needs of our clients. Training will be delivered by experienced staff and/or skilled volunteers based on their experiences and knowledge.

DELIVERY SPECIFICATIONS: 4-8 Weeks

Amount of time required to deliver the program to obtain documented outcomes:

Orientation for young men and males in the Tailored and Tied to Succeed program are conducted the first Monday of each month for 4 hours.

The Spiritual Component curriculum consists of 3 monthly, 2-hour sessions for groups of 10 to 20 men preceded by a half-hour break that includes a boxed lunch or dinner. This component is generally run on a Tuesday night or Saturday morning for the underemployed young men or males.

The Physical Component curriculum consists of bi-weekly, 2-hour sessions for groups of 10 to 20 men preceded by a 30 minute walk or light physical activity along with a healthy snack. This component is generally run on a Wednesday afternoons.

The Intellectual Component curriculum consists of 4, 4-week cohorts per year. Each session is 3 hours per day for groups of 10 to 20 men preceded by a half-hour break that includes a boxed lunch or dinner. This component is generally run on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoons or Saturday morning for the underemployed young men or males.

The Family Component curriculum consists of bi-weekly, 2-hour sessions for 6 weeks for groups of 10 to 20 men preceded by a half-hour break that includes a boxed dinner. This component is generally run on a Monday night.

The Financial Component curriculum consists of a bi-weekly, 2-hour sessions for groups of 10 to 20 men preceded by a half-hour break that includes a boxed lunch. This component is generally run on Thursday evenings.

The Social Component curriculum consists of monthly, 1-hour sessions for groups of 10 to 20 men preceded by a continental breakfast. This component is generally run on a Friday morning.

Men Empowering Men sessions, called family reunions, occur every 3 months for 3 hours and are held in the park or a local community center.

Our suiting program will be by appointments and suiting’s will take approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Suiting’s will be scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays each week.
