Cohort Topic: Intellectual Component
This class is designed to enhance each participant’s personal growth, learning, self-development. These sessions are intended to focus on harnessing a client’s intellectual ability and put them on a path to success that furthers their intellectual goal. This component will be delivered by a lead volunteer of Tailored and Tied to Succeed, Inc. and a certificate of completion is rendered for this class.
Education: Clients will learn the importance of education and what it means with regard to furthering themselves, along with how the advantages of having an education can improve their quality of life for themselves and their family. Resources to different avenues of education will be provided via college/career fairs and one-on-one counseling with a college advisor.
Career/Life Skills Training: Clients will learn resume writing, cover letter preparation, and mock interviewing. They will be introduced to soft skills training such as customer service, teamwork, conflict resolution and critical thinking.
Entrepreneurship: Clients will learn that entrepreneurship is not just about starting a business, or spinning out a company from research but that it's a mindset, or a way of thinking. Clients will understand that being entrepreneurial can mean different things and will learn that in order to be successful you need to know the following: the importance of knowing your industry inside out, being able to exploit that knowledge to create new opportunities, sharing ideas freely, celebrating failures as learning and growing experiences, thinking outside of the box, and expecting the unexpected.
Program Outcomes: At the completion of the Intellectual Component, the participants will be able to:
- Obtain understanding on how to use their gifts and talents to start a home-based or small business venture
- Apply soft skills needed to seek employment, get the job—and keep it!
- Apply skills learned to obtain their GED, enroll into college or obtain industry recognized certification
- Use tools to define their brand and brand attributes which positions them for personal and professional growth
